I sing in a band called Kids Love Lies and have decided to start this blog to make a record of our journey as a new, unsigned band.....
We're made up of:
ellen-vocals
claudia-bass
matt-guitar
raf-drums
leigh-guitar
We have so many different musical influences......from the Slits, to the Yeah Yeah Yeahs to the Mars Volta.
I love fierce female fronted bands and am totally inspired by bands like Distillers, Siouxsie and the Banshees, Blondie and more recently Be Your Own Pet & PARAMORE!! I know lots of people think they're cheesy but I think Hayley Williams, the singer for Paramore has one of the most amazing voices I have ever heard! She has an amazing vocal range especially considering her young age and her stage presence is spell binding.
Playing live is one of the most important things to us as a band aswell as delivering an exciting, energy driven performance at each gig.
I remember going to see a garage rock band called the Subways play at a really small venue in Camden called the Canaervan Castle, several years ago and they totally blew me away. The band is made up of bass, drums and guitar and the energy they packed into that tiny stage, the delivery of their performance, had everyone captivated! I was lucky enough to catch them live several more times before they hit the big time and have since toured with Angels and Airwaves and become a success in America.....
Anyway my point is, seeing bands like this when i was younger just made me think 'shit i wanna be in a band like that! Again, the distillers had this effect on me; I remember seeing them at the Astoria when I was 16 and was so starstruck by Brody ( the lead singer); for me she was everything a female front woman should be; strong, fierce and striking!
Although it has taken me till the age of 21 to actually join a band and start gigging, i feel like it must be fate that brought me and my band together.
We all met each other via the internet...although the rest of the band had been together for about 7 months without a singer when I randomly found their advert looking for a singer and thought why not? So I emailed them, they sent me some of their songs, I came up with some lyrics/melody and went along to one of their practises. And the rest is history; we all hit it off, everything clicked and I became a fully fledged member of the band!
And the funny thing is I came across the advert whilst looking for musical theatre auditions in London.....i quite fancied being in a musical for some reason but luckily found their advert instead!
i'm gonna post some photos from our first ever gig last week as it was soo wicked....soo many people turned up to support us...i thought I was gonna cry with the emotion of it all!
anyway I'm gonna go to the cinema and watch Cloverfield now so byeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
love
ellen xx
